It was probably published in a paper my family didn't get daily. It seemed that Tim was always in the jungle and fighting poachers.

You gave Savage Hawkman more of a chance than I did. I had a bad feeling about the series after the first issue and didn't even add it to my pull list. It was one of dozens of the DC 52 #1s that I just donated to the Library to be used as gifts for teens. Hey, nobody was going to make money holding on to those!Steve Chaputhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05125192472002278757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-48618323744323826982012-04-30T13:27:36.944-04:002012-04-30T13:27:36.944-04:00With the exception of most of the Bat-books, the N...With the exception of most of the Bat-books, the New 52 does feel a bit shallow. Wonder Woman seemingly has been cast adrift from her roots in favor of making all her mythos seem corrupted. Hawkman was pretty unreadable for issue one... I've read a couple since but couldn't muster any enthusiasm... wish DC would turn the Hawks over to someone who actually cared about the characters. "The Shadow War of Hawkman" seems like it was the last highpoint for the character.James Zanknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-67800664607673487872012-04-30T13:13:35.624-04:002012-04-30T13:13:35.624-04:00Tony, I wish they had graphic novels in my local l...Tony, I wish they had graphic novels in my local library. You have to go in the daytime because it isn't safe in my small town after dark. Recently I've been reading The Kirby Fourth World Omnibus Volume Two with Mister Miracle on the cover. I have the New Gods reprints of the saga on Baxter paper from 1984. However the omnibus editions also re-prints "The Forever People" amd "Mr. Miracle". Those are titles I missed so I am very glad to see them. I just saw a lot of them for the first time I'll have the chance to read the saga in chronilogical order.Late Night Ferenginoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-88187996916473925592012-04-30T12:12:44.172-04:002012-04-30T12:12:44.172-04:00EMPOWERED started off good and only got better wit...EMPOWERED started off good and only got better with each volume. It possesses some of the most powerful emotional growth of any American comics, but the wittiness never flags. I am amused, however, to learn that you can get it in public libraries...even in comic shops, it tends to come wrapped in plastic. :)

By the way, last year Dark Horse published an EMPOWERED one-shot comic that may or may not be included in a future TPB, so you might want to seek that out...it's well worth reading.Genenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-48028104410082850252012-04-30T05:57:23.613-04:002012-04-30T05:57:23.613-04:00RE: Hawkman. It is just a rough, ugly book.

That said, you wrote one of my favorite interpretations of 'the Hawks' years ago. It is still my 'go to' for the definitive way in which Hawkman and Hawkgirl could be successfully written as a happily married couple. And stay interesting.

--Tom HunterAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
