I loved going to the now-defunct "New York is Book Country" that was held along several blocks of Fifth Ave. It was amazing seeing the bookstores, restaurants and all the crowds of people. When I moved to Brooklyn in the mid-80s, to work & live, I still found going into Manhattan an great experience. Twenty years later, the novelty had pretty well worn off and I rarely went into The City except for a convention or to see a particular movie at one of the revival houses.

Maybe it's the constant crush of people, the hectic pace or just the feeling that you are just part of a mob, but I know there is no way I could ever go back to the place for longer than to visit family and friends. Good luck to the folks at DC. It will be interesting to see if it changes the comics in any fashion.Steve Chaputhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05125192472002278757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-45064565510656750462013-11-04T14:46:45.144-05:002013-11-04T14:46:45.144-05:00Hi Tony, My Name's Ralph Angelo, I saw you sit...Hi Tony, My Name's Ralph Angelo, I saw you sitting at Ron Fortier's table this summer at pulp fest, but I didn't want to bother you and introduce myself. I'm a fairly new at this pulp and novel author. Anyway, I live 60 miles from Manhattan on Long Island. I have to tell you , I go into the city maybe once or twice a year. I am not a fan. I was in there in January for the Motorcycle show at the javitts center and again a few months earlier for the 2012 NYC comicon. I was actually there at the 2011 one also. To be honest, I can't see ever going into manhattan on a regular basis for any reason. The people are rude and pushy, I don't see the allure of it myself, and I live basically an hour and a half away (With the ever present LIE traffic). So to make a long story short, I'm not a fan of the city and I don't blame anyone else who isn't.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03159980133937618664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-32077890188670347762013-11-04T14:14:56.492-05:002013-11-04T14:14:56.492-05:00As a fan of comics (when they're good) I m not...As a fan of comics (when they're good) I m not sure what to think. It makes sense to move and take advantage of Hollywood as much as Hollywood is doing so to DC. But your Cleveland idea has merit in a dollars and sense way which you would think would appeal to bean counters? It will be interesting to see if the books start to brighten up. A dark take on characters is okay once in awhile but everything seems to have been overly dark for quite a few years! Back in the '80s I remember reading World's Finest and in an early appearance of Count Vertigo fighting Green Arrow, Vertigo smashes a woman's head into a castle wall, and while it wasn't overtly bloody or graphic, that it happened at all was genuinely shocking: now a days I don't think it would be deemed so shocking even if it WAS overtly graphic! Anyway I am generally in a funk as far as DC goes because they cancelled Levitz' latest run on the Legion and I was really enjoying DC Comics again with it. But then, maybe it was too 'bright' for these dark preponderances? I won't get started on what all has happened to Hawkman, but I thought your Shadow War take was the last good one that moved the character forward without divorcing him from what made him popular in decades previous.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00945443607432842568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-31191064054472427292013-11-04T13:37:28.191-05:002013-11-04T13:37:28.191-05:00Thanks, Gene...you gave me a much needed laugh tod...Thanks, Gene...you gave me a much needed laugh today.

Hey, does this mean DC will start honoring its agreement with me re: Black Lightning in 2016 or thereabouts?Tony Isabellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07356415470545816484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2252129938551938631.post-52649752922875937822013-11-04T13:32:51.289-05:002013-11-04T13:32:51.289-05:00Well, it only took forty-odd years, but DC is fina...Well, it only took forty-odd years, but DC is finally making good on its promise to Jack Kirby to set up shop on the West Coast, so there's that.Gene Popanoreply@blogger.com
