COMIC-CON COUNTDOWN #1

I’m thrilled to be a special guest of Comic-Con International 2013
in San Diego from Wednesday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20.  It’s
a great honor and I hope to make the most of it for myself, my
family (who will be accompanying me) and my readers. Over the next
several days, I’ll be writing about what I’m doing during the show
and how you can find me when I’m not on a panel.

Let’s start with some general notes...

I’m going to do my best to have the best convention experience of
my life, to show my family the best parts of my comics world and,
as much as possible, to do what I can to increase the enjoyment of
other convention attendees.  Whenever possible, I’ll be accessible
to anyone who wants to meet me, ask me questions, discuss business
or sign something I’ve written.

Comic-Con is enormous.  It was enormous when I was last there ten
years ago and it’s even more enormous now.  If you really want to
get together with me, you should plan ahead.  If you e-mail or send
me a private message on Facebook, I will try to make arrangements
to meet with you during the convention.

There will be a SPOTLIGHT ON TONY ISABELLA panel on Friday morning
at 10 am in Room 9.  That would be a good place and time to ask me
questions.  Following that panel, I’ll be doing a signing session
in the Autograph Area for about an hour.  If you can’t make those
events, I’m happy to answer questions at my other scheduled panels
or if you catch me when I’m not already doing something.  The same
holds for signing things I’ve written.

I don’t charge for signing things I’ve written.  However, if you’ve
got a whole bunch of things you want signed, I may not be able to
sign them all at once.  How many I can sign will depend on how long
my signing line is or where we happen to be when you ask me to sign
the items.

I’m not coming to Comic-Con looking for work.  That doesn’t mean I
won’t talk business with interested parties.  I’ve been very busy
this first half of 2013, but I think my schedule will be more open
in the second half.  I’m happy to discuss projects, even work-for-
hire projects, with you.

Don’t take it personally if I don’t accept an assignment or agree
to work on a project with you.  I’m not looking for work just for
the sake of work.  I seek projects that will engage me and allow me
to do my best writing.  The financial rewards of such projects are
a consideration, but not the most important consideration.  I’m in
the fortunate position of being able to stick with assignments and
projects that are right for me.

Some closing notes for today...

I confess to being more than a little terrified at attending Comic-
Con.  I’m 61 years old and, though my health is decent, I know I’m
going to get tired.  I’ll try to avoid being both tired and grumpy.
Try to meet me halfway on this.

I’m not a crowd person and Comic-Con is the biggest crowd I could
ever imagine myself being part of.  Protecting me from the crowds
or finding me respites from the crowds will earn you great favor in
my eyes.  I mean, I won’t be able to knight you or anything, but I
will be grateful for your kindnesses.

If you have any questions about my Comic-Con appearances and plans,
send them my way.  I’ll try to answer them in future installments
of this countdown.

Come back tomorrow for more Comic-Con talk.

  1. I do have one or two items I'd love signed so I'll try to attend the Friday 'spotlight', but I won't wear my Zatanna outfit, so as not to shock your family.
