An updated take on Lothar could be pretty fun if we assume that he really is more of Mandrake's partner and that he is putting on an act that plays to the prejudices and preconceptions of ignorant Westerners. Even so, that might play better as part of a period piece. A completely new approach to the character would be more appropriate in today's world.

  2. Never a big Mandrake fan, probably because the daily newspapers my parents got didn't carry him. He was in the Boston paper my father had delivered on Sunday along with the other two.

    I Dynamite Comics' King Quest mini-series, Lothar has taken over the mantle of The Phantom when the current one is killed before the next generation can take over the role. He is treated with dignity and intelligence.
