COMIC-CON COUNTDOWN #4

What has gone before:

Comic-Con, like lightning,
Shall ever appear,
To some men hope
And to other men fear!

I’m a special guest at Comic-Con this year.  My goal is to have a
wonderful time, show my family the better parts of my world, help
other attendees have a wonderful time, see old friends and make new
friends.  I think those are reasonable goals.

I am not going to Comic-Con expecting to come home with lots of or
even any work.  I don’t think any long-standing grievances with a
certain publisher will be resolved.  I’m more than willing to meet
to discuss business matters with folks at the convention, but I’m
not myself setting up any meetings of that nature.  If you want to
work with me, find me or e-mail me to set up a meeting for during
the convention.  If not, I’m cool with that.  There’s a lot to do
at Comic-Con.  I won’t be bored.

As for Saturday’s activities, I am told by that wisest of men Mark
Evanier that this is the event I must not miss:

11:45am

Quick Draw!

It’s the fastest, funniest panel in the whole convention! (Well,
some folks think it is-mainly Sergio and Mark.) Once again, your
Quick Draw Quizmaster Mark Evanier pits three super-speedy
cartoonists against one another as they go mano a mano to create
great cartoon art right before your very eyes. Competing this year
are Sergio Aragonés (MAD, Groo the Wanderer), Scott Shaw! (The
Simpsons), and this year’s Special Guest Quick Draw-er, Neal Adams
(Batman, X-Men). Plus a couple of surprising surprises!

Saturday July 20, 2013 11:45am – 1:00pm

Room 6BCF

I also want to see this:

1:00pm

Spotlight on Roy Thomas

The multitudinously talented Roy Thomas shines in the spotlight as
moderator Jon B. Cooke (Comic Book Creator magazine) quizzes the
“All-Star” comics fan, award-winning comics scribe, and editor
supreme about his early fanzine work, life with Stan Lee in the
Marvel Bullpen, critically acclaimed writing on Conan and The
Avengers (among others), and the Rascally One’s Eisner
Award-nominated achievements for his Alter Ego magazine.

Saturday July 20, 2013 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Room 4

And for those of you who haven’t already had the fill of me during
my previous panel appearances:

4:30pm

That ’70s Panel

It was a time of change in comics, with a new generation
intermingling with the old and taking command. Hear what it was
like from Martin Pasko (Superman, Swamp Thing), Tony Isabella
(Black Lightning, The Champions), Val Mayerik (Man-Thing, Howard
the Duck), Elliott S! Maggin (Superman, Green Arrow), George Pérez
(Teen Titans, Justice League), and moderator Mark Evanier (Groo the
Wanderer, Blackhawk).

Saturday July 20, 2013 4:30pm – 6:00pm

Room 5AB

I don’t have any signings scheduled on Saturday, but if you track
me down and we can find a place where I can sit down and sign your
Isabella-written items, I’ll be happy to accommodate you.

Having avoided a full-blown panic attack for another day, I’ll now
get back to checking items off my Comic-Con preparation list.  Come
around tomorrow and I’ll have more of my pre-convention patter for
you.  See you then.

  1. Nobody should ever miss the Quick Draw! panel if they can help it. It has always been one of the brightspots at the convention and never fails to have me laughing. Hey, maybe if you're lucky, Tony, Mark will have you come up to play "guess the word".

I'm going to try and make at least part of the '70s Panel. That's one amazing line-up!
